Timberland Run Wild

Racing With a Twist!

Good Green Fun

We are thrilled to have so many racers joining us this year because we believe that the more time people spend outside having fun, the more likely they are to respect the outdoors!  However, as our athletic pursuits contribute their own unique environmental footprint, we are making efforts to minimize our effect on the environment while providing the most for our participants.  Some of our efforts include:
  • "Plastic" products: We are using corn-based cups, napkins, plates, forks, etc.  These items are made from corn, not oil, so they convert back to organic matter in a compost facility, and are thus diverted from a landfill post-event.
  • Waste management: Resource recovery stations for separating compost, recycling and trash will be present at various locations in the park.
  • Timberland Mountain Athletics goodie bag: Made of recycled plastic.
  • Charity partner: $1 of every race entry will be donated to Leave No Trace center for environmental ethics to facilitate stewardship of our natural world.
  • Transportation: Carpooling or biking to the event is strongly encouraged!  (Did you know that transportation to and from events, even local events like RUN WILD, is among the highest carbon-contributing factors to holding the event?)
  • Don't forget your shoes: Stop by the Timberland booth and check out their new line of Mountain Athletics shoes that utilize Green Rubber (made from recycled tires) in the soles!
  • Feel free to wear your sweaty clothes from a previous work out! -- Don't forget, it's a greater strain on energy consumption to wash and dry the extra loads of sweaty laundry we athletes create... not to mention all the extra carbon-dioxide we produce by breathing... :)
We look forward to bringing you an even greener event next year!
